Police in Siaya Sub-county are investigating a tragic incident in which a 54-year-old man died after a borehole he was cleaning collapsed on him.

The incident was reported on April 17, 2026, at around 4:40 pm at Awelo Village in Mulaha Sub-location.

According to police, the deceased, identified as Charles Baraza, had been working inside a 60-foot-deep borehole alongside two colleagues when the walls suddenly caved in, trapping him inside.

His colleagues raised the alarm, prompting members of the public to respond and assist in retrieval efforts.

Baraza was eventually pulled out of the collapsed borehole but had already sustained severe injuries, including trauma to the face and multiple fractures on both arms and legs.

The body was moved to Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits post-mortem examination.

Authorities have termed the incident accidental, with investigations ongoing.

Meanwhile, police in Kasarani Sub-county, Nairobi launched investigations following the death of a construction worker who was electrocuted while on duty.

The incident was reported at Kasarani Police Station on the evening of April 17, 2026.

According to police, the deceased, identified as 30-year-old John Maina, was working at an ongoing construction site within the Kasarani area when the accident occurred at around noon.

He was reportedly installing electrical lighting in a building under construction when he came into contact with a live power source and was electrocuted.

His colleagues rushed him to Neema Uhai Hospital for emergency treatment, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body has been preserved at Neema Uhai Hospital mortuary, where it awaits post-mortem examination.

Authorities have since launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident, with officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kasarani taking over the case.
