A 20-year-old man was arrested for the brutal murder of his mother in Nyamagwa village, Sameta, Kisii County.

The motive of the murder was not immediately established, police said on Tuesday after the death of Josephine Kerubo Gisemba, 45.

The neighbours of the woman said she had been crying for help from her house. They rushed to the scene and found Kerubo lying unconscious on the floor and in a pool of blood.

She had a deep cut in the head and swollen neck. Police said she was rushed to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

On Monday evening, her son surrendered to the local chief saying he was behind the murder. Police were called and picked him up for further grilling.

The body of the woman was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

The police revisited the murder scene on Tuesday as part of the ongoing investigations into the tragedy.

In Uriri, Migori County, a man was found murdered and his body abandoned in a thicket.

The incident happened in the Kanyamkago area. The man was not immediately identified when the body was discovered on Monday December 15 morning. The body had injuries in the back of the head and blood was oozing from the ears, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Elsewhere in Emakhusi, Kakamega County, two brothers were arrested after they fatally beat up their younger brother in a quarrel over land.

According to the police, three brothers were fighting before two of them turned on Caleb Manyonje, 27 and fatally hit him.

One of the suspects in the murder is a serving soldier at the Nanyuki air base, police said.

The body of the deceased was found outside his house with injuries in the hands, head and fractured legs.

The police visited the scene and recovered a wooden stick with blood stains.

The two brothers later surrendered to the Shikoti police post before they were arrested.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Such murder incidents have been on the rise in villages and police say they are linked to land issues. Others are linked to love triangles.
