MCA Abass Khalif formally announces bid for Lang’ata MP

Nairobi’s South C Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Abass Khalif, at the weekend, officially declared his intention to contest the Lang’ata parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.

He also called for continued registration of locals as voters ahead of the polls.

Khalif is positioning himself as a challenger to the incumbent MP, Felix Odiwuor (Jalang’o), particularly within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party structures.

Khalif hosted more than 4,000 registered voters at Technical University of Kenya parking on Sunday where he told the group who were majorly from the Kalenjin community of his intentions to vie for the seat.

He said he is a member of ODM and he supports the Broad Based Government.

“We fully support the Broad Based Government and the president as it is now. We are here to make sure things work for the city and country at large.”

“I wish to formally inform you I will be seeking to be the next MP for Langata come 2027,” he said.

He said he supports unity and stability of the country for better development.

“We should shun divisive politics and embrace unity which will usher in development for all. We don’t want discrimination which comes with bad politics,” he told the group.

He also urged the residents to continue registering as voters ahead of the next elections.

“We will use the votes to elect the leaders we want. Register and mobilize more to register.”

During the event, Khalif distributed food to those in attendance as a Christmas gift. Khalif, a businessman and staunch ODM supporter, is aiming to secure the ODM nomination for Lang’ata, signaling a competitive primary ahead of the general election.

He emphasizes party loyalty and stronger grassroots leadership, arguing that the constituency needs representation that aligns closely with ODM’s core values and delivers transparency in development initiatives.

The Lang’ata seat — currently held by Felix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o — is seen as strategically important politically, especially for parties like ODM that have a strong base in the area.
