President Uhuru Kenyatta took his campaign tour to the Bungoma residents where the president is said to have lied to the people of Bungoma.
Uhuru is asaid to have told a lie about NASA deputy flag-bearer Kalonzo Musyoka on Sunday, June 11. Uhuru told the residents that NASA leaders had sensed defeat in the August 8 polls and that is the reason they were seeking other posts apart from the ones they have been promised should the coalition form the next government.
The president claimed that Wiper leader Kalonzo has also been shortlisted to be nominated to the senate should NASA fail to beat Jubilee.
“Mwenzetu Kalonzo amepatiwa vice president lakini amejiweka list ya kuwa senate (Our brother Kalonzo has been picked as deputy president but he has also included his name in the list of senate nominees),” Uhuru said amid laughter.
Kalonzo rubbished the claims with Mbita Mp Millie Odhiambo backing him up. Millie termed the president’s party as desperate and wondered why Uhuru had to lie to innocent Kenyans.
Mbita Mp, Millie Odhiambo“Jubilee is very desperate. Why does Uhuru have to lie about Kalonzo? Yawa. Retire in peace. Uhuru blatantly lied to the Bungoma residents as a scrutiny of the law does not support his claims,” Millie said.
According to Millie, the law (both the constitution and the revised election act) states that a candidate who has been cleared to contest in an election automatically loses the right to be nominated irrespective of their position in the party
“The party list shall not contain a name of a candidate nominated for an election,” section 34, sub-section 9 of the elections act states.
Kalonzo having been cleared to vie as NASA flag-bearer Raila Odinga’s running mate, therefore, loses the right to be nominated for any seat.
