María Isabel Rodríguez Rivero, widely known as Misa Rodríguez or simply Misa, is a Spanish professional footballer born on 22 July 1999 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Raised in the La Garita neighbourhood of Telde on the island of Gran Canaria, she developed an early passion for sport that included rhythmic gymnastics, judo, running, swimming and cycling before focusing on football.
As a child she initially played as a striker, later switching to goalkeeper in her early teens, inspired in part by her grandfather Eleuterio, who had also been a goalkeeper.
She has long been a Real Madrid supporter, a passion passed down from her father, and she maintains strong ties to her Canary Islands roots, often speaking of Telde as home.
Siblings
Misa has a sister named Elena Rodríguez Rivero, whom she has featured in her social media content.
However, not much is known about Elena as she lives a private life compared to her famous sister.
Career
Misa began playing organised football with CD Yoñé La Garita in Telde, initially as a forward.
She moved to CD Femarguín around 2013, switched permanently to goalkeeper and made her senior debut in the Spanish second division during the 2016–17 season.

In February 2017 Atlético Madrid signed her; she spent time with the B team and made limited first-team appearances, including a league debut in 2019, while the club won consecutive Primera División titles.
Seeking more playing time, she joined newly promoted Deportivo La Coruña for the 2019–20 season and established herself with twelve league appearances as the side finished fourth.
In 2020 she became one of the first signings for the newly formed Real Madrid Femenino.
Over six seasons she became a mainstay, eventually captaining the side and accumulating more than 200 appearances, more than any other player in the club’s history, before departing at the end of the 2025–26 campaign.
On 22 July 2026 she joined Arsenal on a free transfer.
Internationally she featured for Spain’s under-19 side, contributing to the 2018 UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship win, and made her senior debut in February 2021.
She has earned more than twenty caps for the senior national team.
Accolades
With Atlético Madrid she was part of the squads that secured three consecutive Primera División titles between 2016-17 and 2018-19.
At youth international level she won the UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship in 2018.
With the senior Spain team she claimed the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023, starting the group-stage matches, and the UEFA Women’s Nations League in 2024.
Individually she won the Zamora Trophy – awarded to the goalkeeper with the lowest goals-per-game ratio in the Spanish top flight – twice, in the 2020–21 and 2022–23 seasons.
She has also received local recognitions, including the Roque Nublo award and the Gold Medal of the city of Telde.
