The National Treasury has announced that it will officially launch the 2027/28 Financial Year and Medium-Term Budget preparation process on July 22, 2026, marking the start of the country’s budget planning cycle.

In a statement, National Treasury Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo said the launch will be held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi from 8:30 a.m.

Kiptoo said the process is being undertaken in accordance with Article 201 of the Constitution and Section 35(2) of the Public Finance Management Act (Cap. 412A), which require public participation in public finance management.

“This process is conducted in accordance with Article 201 of the Constitution and Section 35(2) of the Public Finance Management Act (Cap. 412A), underscoring the role of public participation in financial decision-making,” he said.

The launch programme will feature opening remarks by the Principal Secretary to the National Treasury and the Chairperson of the National Assembly’s Budget and Appropriations Committee.

The event will also include a keynote address and the official launch by the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury.

Participants will receive presentations on the Fourth Medium-Term Plan (MTP IV), the country’s medium-term macroeconomic outlook, and highlights of the 2027/28 budget preparation process.

The event will conclude with a session outlining the way forward for the budget-making process.

The Treasury said the launch is open to members of the public as part of efforts to promote transparency, accountability and inclusiveness in budget formulation.

Members of the public have also been encouraged to follow the proceedings through the National Treasury’s official social media platforms, where live updates and coverage will be provided.
