    One-year-old child dies after falling into borehole in Uasin Gishu

    A one-year-nine-month-old boy died after accidentally falling into a shallow borehole in Kirinjoni village, Chepkongony Sub-location, Plateau Location, Ainabkoi Sub-County, Uasin Gishu County.

    The incident happened on Monday, September 14, 2026, at around 3:15pm.

    Police officers visited the scene, where they found the body of the child, lying lifeless beside the borehole.

    Preliminary reports indicate that the child accidentally fell into the shallow borehole. Neighbours reportedly retrieved him and attempted to resuscitate him, but he succumbed.

    The body was moved to Plateau Mission Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting an autopsy.

    Meanwhile, a 49-year-old woman has died after accidentally falling into a borehole while drawing water in Huruma Estate, Baragoi, Samburu North Sub-County.

    The deceased, identified as Emejen Erith, a resident of the estate, reportedly fell into the borehole on Sunday, September 13, 2026.

    Police officers rushed to the scene, where they found the borehole open and area residents gathered around it. With the assistance of members of the public, the woman’s body was successfully retrieved.

    Preliminary findings indicate that Erith had gone to fetch water when she accidentally slipped and fell into the borehole, landing headfirst.

    The body had visible physical injuries on the right shoulder. The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Baragoi Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy.

    And a 100-year-old woman died after a fire consumed her one-room timber house in Gautine village, Maara Sub-County, on Sunday evening.

    The deceased was identified as Beatrice Mukawaiti, who lived alone in the house located in Mugumango Location, Mukui Sub-Location.

    Police said the woman was last seen alive at around 6:30 p.m., when she had lit a fire near her bed to keep warm.

    The victim’s body was found completely burnt beyond recognition and was identified by her son.

    The remains were moved to Chuka Level 5 County Hospital mortuary for preservation, pending autopsy and final disposal.

    The cause of the fire is yet to be conclusively established.
