    President Uhuru Appoints Francis Muthaura As KRA Chairman

    President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday appointed former Head of Civil Service, Francis Muthaura as the chair of the board of KRA in a gazette notice dated 23 May.

    The president indicated that the 71 year old will serve as the KRA board chairman with effect from May 22 until 20 October, 2019.

    “In exercise of the powers conferred by section 7(3) of the State Corporations Act and section 6(2)(a) of the Kenya Revenue Authority Act, I, Uhuru Kenyatta, President and Commander in Chief of the Kenya Defense Forces appoint- Francis K. Muthaura (AMB.) to be the chairperson of the Kenya Revenue Authority up to 20 October, 2019,” reads the Kenya Gazette notice.

    The former Head of Civil Service Amb. Francis Muthaura has been serving as the Lapsset Development Authority chairman and it is not clear if he will relinquish that position.

    Charles Makori Omanga was also appointed as a member of the board of the KRA where he will serve until June 14, 2020, with effect from May 30, to replace Abdi Bare Duale whose appointment was revoked.

    Also in the gazette notice was the revoked the appointment of Edward Sambili, who is a former Central Bank of Kenya deputy governor and has been serving as the KRA chairman from October 28, 2016.

    Other appointments made include that of Isaac Awuondo named as the chairperson of the Board of the Kenya Airports Authority for 3 years effective May 11; Joseph Mutiso was appointed as a member of the KAA for a period of three years, with effect from May 22, Caroline Kariuki appointed as the chairperson of the board of the Special Economic Zones Authority for a period of three years and John Waithaka who will now chair the board of Kenya Wildlife Authority for a period of three years effective May 21.
