Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s children have paid an emotional tribute to their late father, describing him as a visionary Pan-Africanist and a patriot whose life was dedicated to democracy and justice.

Speaking during the national funeral service at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) in Bondo, Siaya County, Raila Odinga Junior said the family is no longer mourning but celebrating the life of a great leader who touched millions.

“We are no longer mourning Jakom, but we are celebrating his life today as we give him a final send-off,” Raila Jr. said.

He expressed gratitude to President William Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, and the government for their support during Raila’s final journey. “We have received support from President Ruto and the government, which has enabled us to give our father a decent send-off befitting his stature,” he added.

Raila Jr. also thanked his father’s longtime staff for their loyalty and care, both during his political career and in his final moments.

Winnie Odinga echoed her brother’s sentiments, praising President Ruto for standing with the family during their time of grief. “We honour you for the support and good work to our family. The King is gone; long live the crown,” she said.

She also commended Raila’s staff for their dedication and unwavering service to the late leader. Rosemary Odinga, in her tribute, described her father as a loving parent who deeply cared for his family. She urged Kenyans to emulate his legacy of courage, compassion, and commitment to justice.

President William Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo attended the State funeral, which drew thousands from across the country.

Raila Odinga passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, while undergoing treatment in India. He was 80 years old. Born on January 7, 1945, he served as Kenya’s Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013 and as Lang’ata MP from 1992 to 2013. His death marks the end of an era for one of Kenya’s most iconic and transformative leaders.
