Nyamira senatorial hopeful Philemon Morara Apiemi has lashed out at the county leadership over the deteriorating state of infrastructure in the region.

He further spoke of complacency and inefficiency by the governor in improving the road network in the villages.

“Look at this for example, one can barely make it through without a big car ,even my team of doctors assisting with the free medical camp here have reported delays due to the bad road,” stated Apiemi.

Apiemi was speaking late Tuesday during a free medical camp at Riajerusha SDA church in West Mugirango.

At least 600 residents benefited from the free treatment sponsored by the Nairobi based lawyer cum politician.

Current Nyamira Senator Okongo Mogeni is reportedly eyeing the governorship seat giving room for other contestants.

On Tuesday, Apiemi — who has declared interest in the 2027 Senate race — said the county continues to stagnate due to what he termed as “a culture of lethargy, poor planning, and lack of accountability.”

“Our people deserve better. Nyamira is rich in talent and resources, but our leadership has failed to convert that potential into tangible progress,” he said.

“Hospitals lack drugs, our roads are in disrepair, and young people are unemployed while county leaders engage in endless political games.”

He accused some county officials of prioritising personal gain over service delivery, saying the situation has eroded public trust.

He urged residents to elect leaders with integrity, energy, and a clear vision for development.

He also promised to champion better oversight and ensure prudent use of public funds if elected senator.

“The Senate is not a retirement home for politicians; it is an institution meant to protect counties from mismanagement and waste,” he said.

Local Ward aspirant Douglas Ongeo urged the residents to register for SHA .

He said many people do not access quality health care due to lack of insurance cover.

And speaking at a separate function within West Mugirango MP Steve Mogaka faulted the High Court for halting the recruitment of 10,000 police officers.

He asked the judiciary to reconsider the ruling to allow the government to undertake the recruitment.

In the ruling dated Monday, November 10, Justice Bahati Mwamuye had issued a conservatory order halting the recruitment pending the determination of a petition challenging the recruitment.

“Pending the inter partes hearing and determination of the petitioner’s application, a conservatory order is hereby issued suspending the Notice of Recruitment of Police Constables/Officers issued on November 4, 2025,” Justice Mwamuye ordered.

The ruling was delivered at the Milimani Law Courts following a petition by activist Eliud Matindi, who filed a constitutional application challenging the recruitment exercise announced by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja on November 4.

Mogaka said the ruling was hurting chances for youth to make contributions to the country.
