A woman in Taiwan live tweeted her suicide mission on Facebook chat. The woman inhaled poisonous gases and died while chatting with her friends, none of whom alerted emergency services, police said Tuesday.
To make it worse,March18th was Claire Lin’s 31st birthday and it is the same day she killed herself. Family members who reported her death were unaware of the Facebook conversations that accompanied it, Taipei police told journalists. Claire’s last Facebook updates show her chatting with nine friends, alerting them to her gradual suffocation.
Mesages show her friends begging her to open the window and put out the charcoal fire. One identified as Chung Hsin, told Lin, “Be calm, open the window, put out the charcoal fire, please, I beg you.”
Lin replied, “The fumes are suffocating. They fill my eyes with tears. Don’t write me anymore.”
A few of her Facebook friends chatting with her tried to track her down on their own but never called the police.
Lin’s last words, in Chinese, were: “Too late. My room is filled with fumes. I just posted another picture. Even while I’m dying, I still want FB (Facebook). Must be FB poison. Haha.”
Lin’s Facebook updates indicated that she was unhappy because her boyfriend was ignoring her. She was also unhappy that her boyfriend could not return and be with her during her birthday. Her boyfriend came back home the following morning, found her body and alerted her family and the police.
