A 54-year-old teacher was attacked and killed while walking home from a drinking session at Muambani Trading Centre in Mutomo Sub-County, Kitui County.
The body of Joseph Mutinda Ngemu, a Board of Management (BOM) teacher at Makuuni Primary School, was discovered lying beside the road at Muambani Trading Centre, Vote Sub-Location, Kyatune Location, on Wednesday, police said.
Police officers visited the scene and found the deceased, who was positively identified by his wife.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Ngemu had been drinking beer with fellow teachers at Kileleshwa Bar in Ndatani Trading Centre on Tuesday evening.
He reportedly left the bar at about 10:30pm to walk to his rented house at Muambani Trading Centre.
On his way home, he was allegedly attacked with stones by a known man, who is suspected of assaulting him to death.
A witness who reportedly came across the incident fled the scene, fearing the suspect.
Police later recovered clothes bearing suspected blood stains from the suspect’s house. However, the suspect had reportedly escaped and remained at large.
The scene was documented before the body was moved to Mutomo Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
And a man died after he was allegedly attacked by a mob in Malaba Township, Teso North Sub-County, Busia County.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, within the Gidee Hotel area.
National Police Service officers who rushed to the scene found the lifeless body of a male adult, identified only as “Manyonje,” lying in a pool of blood.
The victim had visible injuries on his face and the back of his head.
Preliminary investigations established that the man had allegedly been subjected to mob injustice by boda boda riders from the Asing’e area of Teso South Sub-County.
Police processed and documented the scene before moving the body to the Teso North Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending formal identification and a postmortem examination.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal attack are ongoing.
Elsewhere, a 60-year-old man was found dead in a shallow stream in Makunga Village, Kabras West Sub-County, Kakamega County.
Police officers who visited the scene found the lifeless body of Francis Landi Muchende partly submerged in a shallow stream beneath a wooden footbridge.
Preliminary investigations established that Muchende, who lived alone, was last seen alive on the morning of Tuesday, September 1.
Police processed and documented the scene before the body was removed and taken to Kakamega Orthopaedic Hospital mortuary for preservation pending a postmortem examination.
