Gor Mahia will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Western Stima at the Kasarani Stadium in a rescheduled Kenyan Premier League fixture.
So much will be at stake more so for K’Ogalo who begun the season on a low under coach Hasan Oktay with some quarters ruling them out of the title race after just three matches.
A win for the defending champions against the league’s newbies will see them climb to the top of the standings for the first time this season on goal difference.
Gor Mahia, who have clinch the title for a record 17 times, are currently placed 3rd on the log on 25 points from 12 matches, three points off Bandari FC, who have shown so much steel in the race.
Stima dropped to 7th on Tuesday after KPL docked them three points after they were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player against Tusker earlier in the campaign.
They will have to dig deeper to pull a result against a Gor Mahia side they have beaten just three times, once on penalties, in 14 encounters.
Despite edging out Sofapaka 1-0 on Sunday at the Afraha Stadium -Nakuru, Oktay was unimpressed with refereeing especially in the last four matches involving his side.

“I have not talked about the referees before but today I’ll talk about them. In the last four games, they have got it wrong. In the derby they had a goal disallowed. The week before they gave a goal and called it off again. And today I’m sorry to say, the referee wasn’t good enough,” the Cypriot lamented.
He is likely to rotate his squad today and rest some of his players who have played back to back games both in the Caf Confederation Cup and in the league.
Defenders Charles Momanyi, Joachim Oluoch, Godfrey Ochieng’ and Joash Onyango and midfielder Bernard Ondiek and Kenneth Muguna could face their former side if selected today.
The match will kick-off at 4.00pm.
