Tragedy struck a home when a man poisoned and killed his two young girls before he died by suicide in a village in Suswa, Narok County.

Police said the suspect, identified as Nahashon Mbogo fed his two daughters, aged six and four, with a redcat poison. The remains of the poison were found in the house, police said.

After feeding the children with the poison and they had died, he lay them on bed. He then hanged himself in his house in the October 21, 2025 incident.

The motive of the incident was not immediately known.

The bodies of the girls were found lying on bed while that of the man was dangling from the roof of the house with a rope tied around his neck.

It is not clear where the mother of the children was at the time of the incident.

Locals detected the incident and alerted the police.

The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

This is the latest such suicide incident to be reported amid efforts to address the trend.

The other incidents were reported in Kericho, Kericho, Nairobi and Meru, police said. The incidents are under probe for now, the teams handling the matters said on Wednesday.

Police statistics show up to five cases are at times reported daily in the worrying trend.

Most of the victims are men, statistics show.

The World Health Organisation says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties and financial difficulties.

Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder.

The government says efforts are being made to address the menace.
