Two suspects arrested in connection with the theft of a Range Rover from a disputed 21-acre parcel of land in Mlolongo, which has been linked to the murder of Dr Victoria Mutiso, have been released on bond.

The suspects include a daughter to the husband of Dr Mutiso.

Mavoko Senior Resident Magistrate Lilian Kwamboka on Wednesday declined an application by the prosecution to detain the suspects, lawyer Angela Mulwa and Nelson Masiga, for a further seven days. Masiga is a former Member of County Assembly in Nairobi while Mulwa is a lawyer.

Mulwa and Masiga were arrested on August 2, 2026 following the recovery of the Range Rover at one of Mulwa’s properties in Karen. The car was among four that had been stolen from Dr Mutiso’s home in Mlolongo.

The home is at the centre of her murder.

The two had been detained for 14 days to allow police to complete their investigations.

Mulwa applied to have the bond reviewed to cash bail, arguing that her immediate family members are also in police custody in connection with the murder of Dr Mutiso and would therefore be unable to process the bond.

The prosecution opposed the application, arguing that the disputed property is worth more than Ksh.900 million.

The court is expected to rule on the application on Thursday.

While releasing the suspects on bond, Magistrate Kwamboka imposed several conditions.

“Each respondent shall execute a bond of Sh1 million with one surety of a similar amount. The respondents shall deposit their passports and any other travel documents with the court pending further orders,” Kwamboka directed.

“The respondents shall not leave the jurisdiction of this court without prior written permission of the court. The respondents shall report to the investigating officer at Mavoko Police Station as and when required,” she added.

The case remains under investigation as police continue to pursue leads surrounding the stolen vehicle and the wider circumstances linked to Dr Mutiso’s murder.

Mulwa’s mother and her son are in custody over the murder. A police officer and two other people including a boda boda rider are also in custody over the murder of the psychologist.

He murder is linked to a dispute over a piece of land in Mlolongo.
