Two people are still missing after a vehicle belonging to a Member of County Assembly (MCA) was swept away by raging floodwaters in Isiolo on Friday, April 18.
The Prado, owned by David Lemantile, was trying to cross the flooded KMC Bridge, located about five kilometres northwest of the Isiolo Police Station, when it was carried away by strong currents. According to Lemantile, the car had three people inside at the time of the incident.
Authorities have confirmed that the vehicle was heading to Isiolo from Kipsing area and was occupied by driver Paul Gitonga, Rajuel Lemantile, 23, and Boniface Muriungi, 22.
“Boniface managed to escape through the window and was not injured,” said an official at the scene. “Unfortunately, the other two are still missing, and search efforts are currently underway.”
The vehicle was later recovered approximately two kilometres downstream, heavily damaged by the force of the water.
In a separate incident at Safi Estate, several residents who were trapped inside their flooded homes were successfully rescued and moved to safer locations by emergency teams.
Local authorities have also begun counting the number of livestock lost and assessing the extent of damage to homes and property caused by the floods, which continue to wreak havoc in parts of Isiolo County.
