A student at the University of Nairobi, Kikuyu Campus was stabbed and killed in an altercation at a hostel in Kikuyu Town, Kiambu County.

Police said Brian Wambui, a third year education student died at the PCEA Kikuyu Hospital on Sunday August 31 following his stabbing in the abdomen.

The assailant is said to be a fellow student at the university. The two were Sunday with others watching a football match at their hostel in Kihunguro when they differed and broke into a fight.

It was then that the deceased was stabbed in the stomach. The assailant is said to have used a kitchen knife in the mission.

He later escaped the scene as the deceased was rushed to the hospital while bleeding. He was pronounced dead while being attended to.

The motive of attack is yet to be established, police said as they moved the body to the same facility’s mortuary pending an autopsy.

The hunt on the assailant is ongoing, police said.

Elsewhere in Tarassa, Tana River County, one Kahindi Randu, 51 was found murdered in Hurara village and his body abandoned in a bush.

Police said the body had deep cuts on his head and back and it was established that the deceased with his wife were sleeping outside their house when five men struck on September 1, 2025.

The men assaulted the couple while demanding to know the whereabouts of their cows that had gone missing.

They then hit the man killing him as he tried to escape while the wife was left with serious injuries. The police visited the scene and moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations.

Police say most murder cases reported in the area are linked to land or livestock disputes. The cases are under probe, police said adding no arrests have been made so far.
