    Early Life

Tito Jackson was born Toriano Adaryll Jackson on October 15, 1953, in Gary, Indiana. He was the third of ten children of Joe Jackson and Katherine Jackson. His siblings included famous performers such as Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Randy Jackson, Rebbie Jackson, and La Toya Jackson.

Tito discovered his love for music at a young age. When he was about 10 years old, he was caught playing his father’s guitar and accidentally broke a string. Instead of punishing him, his father fixed the guitar and asked him to perform. Impressed by his talent, Joe Jackson bought Tito his own guitar, marking the beginning of his musical journey.

    The Jackson 5

Encouraged by their father, Tito and his brothers formed a group originally called The Jackson Brothers. The group later evolved into The Jackson 5, with members Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael.

The brothers first performed at local talent shows, schools, and clubs, including venues along the famous Chitlin’ Circuit. In 1967, they signed their first recording contract with Steeltown Records, releasing the single Big Boy.

Their career skyrocketed after signing with Motown in 1969. The group quickly achieved worldwide success with several chart-topping songs, including:

    • I Want You Back
    • ABC
    • The Love You Save
    • I’ll Be There

At their peak, the group became Motown’s best-selling act, even surpassing The Supremes in popularity.

In 1976, the group left Motown and signed with CBS Records, later performing as The Jacksons and starring in the TV variety series The Jacksons.

In 1989, the remaining Jackson brothers released their final studio album together, 2300 Jackson Street. The group’s lasting influence was recognized when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.

In 2016, he released the single Get It Baby, featuring Big Daddy Kane. The track appeared on his debut solo album Tito Time, which helped introduce him to a new generation of fans.

His second album, Under Your Spell, was released in 2021 and featured collaborations with musicians including Stevie Wonder, George Benson, and Bobby Rush.

Later in his career, Tito also collaborated with Brazilian singer Natalia Damini on the 2023 single “Attitude.”

    Television Appearances

In 2007, Tito Jackson appeared as a judge on the second season of the BBC celebrity singing competition Just the Two of Us. On the show, he joined fellow judges including Stewart Copeland and Trevor Nelson.

    Personal Life

In 1972, Tito married Delores Martes. The couple had three sons—Taj Jackson, Taryll Jackson, and TJ Jackson—who later formed the R&B group 3T.

The couple divorced in 1988. In 1994, Martes was found dead in a swimming pool. Initially ruled an accident, the case was later reopened, and in 1998, Donald Bohana was convicted of her murder.
