Police in Kisumu County are investigating a murder incident in Kamuga village within Nyakach Sub-County after a 23-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband.

A team of police officers visited the scene on May 12 after it had happened and confirmed the incident.

The deceased, identified only as Winny, a female adult aged about 23 years, is reported to have been assaulted by her husband hours earlier.

Police said neighbours heard the woman screaming for help and rushed to rescue her, only to find her lying lifeless within the compound.

The body had visible injuries on the hands and legs.

Investigators recovered a wooden stick, a trouser and a T-shirt stained with blood from inside the couple’s house.
The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Bethlehem Mortuary awaiting an autopsy.

Police said the suspect escaped after the incident and efforts to trace and arrest him are ongoing.

Cases of domestic assault that turned fatal have been on the rise amid efforts to solve them. The cases are pending courts, police said.

Meanwhile, police in Kayole Sub-County recovered a pistol loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition and arrested two suspects during an operation targeting non-compliant motorcycles along Kangundo Road in the Saika area.

Police officers were conducting a targeted operation at Saika bus stop when they intercepted a motorcycle carrying a rider and two pillion passengers.

Police said the motorcycle was approaching from the town direction before slowing down to turn into Saika Estate. Officers managed to stop the motorcycle and switch off the ignition.

The two pillion passengers reportedly jumped off and attempted to flee, prompting officers to pursue them. One suspect was arrested after officers noticed he had dropped an object while escaping.

Upon returning to the spot, officers recovered a Falcon pistol loaded with 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Police also detained the motorcycle rider together with another passenger, to assist investigators in tracing the second suspect who escaped. Detectives believe the fugitive may also have been armed.

The operation was later extended towards the Korogocho and Dandora areas in vain as the motorcycle and two Samsung mobile phones recovered from the suspects were detained as exhibits pending further investigations.
