    Early Life

YG was born Keenon Dequan Ray Jackson on March 9, 1990, in Compton, California. He grew up in challenging circumstances, with his father incarcerated for tax-related offences. As a teenager, he became involved in street life before focusing on music as a career path.

At age 20, he released his debut single “Toot It and Boot It,” featuring Ty Dolla Sign. The track entered the Billboard Hot 100 and helped him secure a deal with Def Jam Recordings. He later built momentum through a series of mixtapes, including The Real 4Fingaz, Just Re’d Up, and 4 Hunnid Degreez.

    Breakthrough Success

YG’s career took a major leap in 2013 after signing with CTE World, the imprint led by rapper Jeezy. His feature on Yo Gotti’s “Act Right” and the release of “My Nigga” featuring Jeezy and Rich Homie Quan brought him national attention, with the latter peaking inside the Billboard Hot 100 top 20.

In 2014, he released “Who Do You Love?” featuring Drake, followed by his debut album My Krazy Life. The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and featured collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, Meek Mill, Nicki Minaj, and others.

He continued his momentum with Still Brazy in 2016, Stay Dangerous in 2018, 4Real 4Real in 2019, and My Life 4Hunnid in 2020, maintaining a consistent presence in mainstream hip-hop charts.

    Collaborations

YG has also built a strong reputation through collaborations. His feature on Jeremih’s “Don’t Tell ’Em” became one of his highest-charting appearances, peaking in the Billboard Hot 100 top 10. He has also worked with major artists including Mariah Carey, Nipsey Hussle, Tyga, and Saweetie.

In 2021, he released a joint album titled Kommunity Service with rapper Mozzy, further expanding his collaborative catalogue.
