Nyamira Senator Okongo O’Mogeni wants the Kenyan government to begin shouldering its budgetary obligations for the country’s development.
He said continued overly reliance on external funding, decades later since the country achieved independence from imperialists was disgrace.
This dependency on donor agencies to fund even simple things as condoms was slowly killing the innovation by the African leaders to think big.
Omogeni spoke early Wednesday at his Nyamira residence weighing in his voice about the decision by new USA president Donald Trump to wound up the country’s donor aid arm, USAID, and sent staff home.
USAID has been instrumental especially funding treatment for HIV and drugs for those suffering from the disease in Africa.
“Let our government do proper planning and stop crying wolf over this matter, we cannot continue waiting for such support any more.
We can do better by first dealing with graft and other forms of excesses, this can can have huge change which can generously fund our health sector,” stated Omogeni.
The Senator separately pressed for the quick reorganization of the electoral agency, Iebc, saying further delays were depriving Kenyans leaders especially where there had been reported deaths of those initially elected.
“We should have in place commissioners by April latest and move swifty to register voters and also oversee polls in the affected political units,” the Senator also a gubernatorial hopeful stated.
In Nyamira, at least two Wards do not have representatives in the local assembly following one death and the other a court ruling that annulled the poll outcome. .
And weighing in on the spate of ongoing abductions, the Senator fingered the government saying it was hiding more about the abductions.
He said the political leadership should be held accountable for the abductions and killings.
