A businessman in land deals Elias Mutugi Njeru was Monday arrested after he surrendered to police in a probe into the stabbing of his girlfriend in Nakuru’s Kiamunyi area. He is accused of stabbing one Florence Wanjiku Gichohi on November 22 in an argument. He stabbed her in the head and hands before fleeing the scene. Detectives are investigating an incident in which the body of a 46 year old man was found submerged in a water tank in Matinyani, Kitui County. The victim was identified as one Patrick Mutua Wambua, 46. His body was found squeezed and submerged in a 250 liters plastic drum full of water with the head on top of the lid. The body had been severed at the neck below the chin. No other body injuries were detected, police said. The body was found in his house on Sunday, police said. At least 24 people have died after two boats carrying mostly Somali nationals capsized off the coast of Madagascar, local authorities said. A statement from Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said efforts were underway to “ensure the safe return of the survivors”. The two boats carried a total of 70 passengers. The vessels were discovered adrift off Madagascar’s north coast on Saturday in the Indian Ocean. It is believed their engines had failed. The renowned anti-apartheid writer and activist Breyten Breytenbach, jailed for his beliefs in South Africa in the 1970s, has died aged 85, his family said.  He passed away in his sleep, with his wife Yolande by his side in Paris. The dissident poet, novelist and painter was “an immense artist, militant against apartheid, he fought for a better world until the end,” a statement from his family read. Tragedy struck a young football team when one of their players aged 12 died after a bus they were using overturned at the Southern Bypass-ICD overpass, Nairobi. Police said at least 25 other children aged between 10 and 16 were admitted to various hospitals following the Saturday November 23 evening incident near Olesereni Hotel. The Adani Group on Saturday clarified on reports of Kenya cancelling more than $2.5 billion in deals after the US’ allegations, saying it had not entered into any binding agreement to operate Kenya’s main airport. A massive Israeli air strike on central Beirut has killed at least 15 people, Lebanese officials say, in the latest attack on the capital amid an escalation of Israel’s campaign against Hezbollah. University lecturers under the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) have officially resumed work after reaching an agreement with the Inter-Public Universities Councils Consultative Forum (IPUCCF) on implementing the 2021–2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
