Gigandet’s acting career began in 2003 with a guest appearance on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

His breakout role came in 2005–2006 as Kevin Volchok, a rebellious surfer in the Fox teen drama The O.C., where he appeared in 15 episodes.
In 2007, Gigandet landed a pivotal role as the villainous Ryan McCarthy in the action drama Never Back Down, followed by his portrayal of the sadistic vampire James Witherdale in Twilight (2008).
