Cole Sulser is an American professional baseball pitcher born on March 12, 1990, in Santa Ysabel, California.

A right-handed reliever standing 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing around 200 pounds, he has carved out a career in Major League Baseball (MLB) primarily as a bullpen arm known for his slider and competitive approach.

Sulser grew up in a rural mountain setting on a cattle ranch, where baseball was a central family activity, and he later pursued both academics and athletics at Dartmouth College, earning an engineering degree while excelling on the mound.

He has played for several MLB teams, including the Cleveland Indians (now Guardians), Tampa Bay Rays, Baltimore Orioles, Miami Marlins, and Arizona Diamondbacks.

    Siblings

Cole has two younger siblings: a brother named Beau Sulser and a sister named Tiffany Sulser.

Beau, born in 1994, followed in Cole’s footsteps as a professional pitcher, attending the same high school (Ramona High) and Dartmouth College, where the brothers overlapped for one season in 2013.

Beau was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 10th round of the 2017 MLB Draft and reached the major leagues, creating memorable moments such as the pair pitching in the same inning during a Triple-A game in 2024.

Tiffany serves in the United States Coast Guard and has maintained a lower public profile compared to her baseball-playing brothers.

    Career

Sulser’s professional journey began after he was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 25th round of the 2013 MLB Draft out of Dartmouth College, where he accumulated 20 wins—among the highest in school history—and balanced rigorous engineering studies with baseball.

His path to the majors was far from straightforward: he endured two major surgeries, spent seven years developing in the minor leagues, and relied on determination to refine his pitching arsenal, particularly his breaking ball.

Sulser made his MLB debut with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2019 at age 29, marking a late-blooming entry into the big leagues after engineering his own comeback story through persistence and self-improvement.

Over the following years, he bounced between organizations, enjoying his most productive stretches with the Baltimore Orioles, where he served as a reliable reliever before being traded to the Miami Marlins in 2022 alongside Tanner Scott.

Sulser has continued to pitch for teams like the Arizona Diamondbacks, contributing as a middle reliever or setup man with solid strikeout rates and the ability to handle high-leverage situations.

His career reflects the grind of professional baseball, transitioning from undrafted expectations to a serviceable MLB arm while maintaining a love for the outdoors and family roots.

    Accolades

Sulser earned recognition at the collegiate level at Dartmouth for his pitching contributions and academic achievements as an engineering major.

In the pros, his breakthrough included establishing himself in the MLB bullpen after years in the minors, with notable stints producing effective relief outings for contending or rebuilding teams.

Sulser has been part of memorable sibling milestones, such as sharing the mound with brother Beau in Triple-A, which highlighted family achievements in baseball.

His career stats include respectable strikeout numbers and innings pitched across multiple organizations, underscoring reliability in a demanding role.
