Police are investigating murder in an incident where a decomposed human body was found in a forest in Thogoto, Kiambu County.

The body had been partially mauled by wild animals when it was found on Tuesday evening.

Police said they could not determine the gender of the body at that time and there were signs the scene was secondary.

Police believe the victim was killed elsewhere and the body dumped in the forest. The body’s both upper and lower limbs had been tied with a rope.

The body was discovered by forest officials who were patrolling the area, police said.

The body was picked up to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Elsewhere in Bonyunyu, Nyamira County, one Peter Obai was lynched in a mistaken identity case, police said.

The deceased had a mental issue and had strayed into a home about two kilometers away from his house when an alarm was raised.

The owners of the home mistook him for a thief and stoned him to death in the December 16 incident.

They later learned the victim was known to them and carried the body to a footpath where they dumped it, police said.

The body was discovered hours later and moved to the mortuary. The suspected assailants had escaped the scene and police said Wednesday they were pursuing them for grilling and possible murder prosecution.

Elsewhere in Kitale town, police said they are investigating an incident where two people were killed in a fire incident in their house.

The bodies of the two were found after the fire had been contained. The two had returned home early on Tuesday dawn in Makunga village, Kibomet area and lit a candle or cigarette which triggered the fire.

About ten other houses were also burnt in the incident.

The bodies of the two people were moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
