Kenyans on Twitter popularly known as KOT have criticized Standard Group’s newly launched Pulser Magazine.

The monthly paper, which was launched on Thursday night, used Tanzania’s bongo flavor artist Nasibu Abdul Juma alias Diamond Platnumz picture on its cover.

This did not auger well with a section of netizens who felt the move was ill advised.

As usual, they didn’t hesitate to air their disappointments.

Many sought answers as to why the local media outlet didn’t feature one of Kenya’s talented artists.

“What a night!! Pulser Magazine is officially launched and on it’s cover page is Diamond Platnumz. #WhatHappenedToSupportLocal #KenyaGotTalent — feeling disappointed, ” Dennis Kamau expressed his disappoitments.

“Great move, but you couldn’t find talent or lifestyle within our borders to premier the pulser, no hard feelings though… @SDEKenya @StandardKenya #LiveItUp #pulser,” Kuboka Jnr said.

“Lakini how do you launch a kenyan magazine to/ for the Kenyan market na cover page ni picha ya Tanzanian artist? Smh!  😒#Liveitup #pulser,” Wambui Kariuki said.

Pulser, adds to a pool of recent products by the Mombasa Road based media outlet.

Recently Standard launched KTN Burudani TV, a channel focusing on entertainment.

The new station targets the younger generation. It’s known for movies, comedy shows and music.

The media group also launched KTN Farmer’s TV. According to the information on the TV’s website, the channel focuses on highlighting, profiling and supporting Kenyan farmers.

While launching the TV, Orlando Lyomu , Standard Group Chief Executive Officer, said the new initiative will create a new ecosystem that will provide communication solutions to all stakeholders in the agriculture value chain.

Three years ago, the Standard Group also launched KTN News, a channel that focuses on current affairs and breaking news.

Standard Group also boasts of Radio Maisha, a station that has taken root into the Kenyan audience.

The media group also started an urban radio station dubbed Spice FM which is currently on pilot in Nairobi.

Spice FM is seen to be targeted at dislodging Hot 96 and Classic FM from the top urban English language radio stations in Kenya currently.

According to insiders, Standard Group bought 94.4 FM and associated frequencies countrywide which were formerly owned by Nation Media Group’s dead station, Q-FM.

Spice FM has been broadcasting on 94.4 FM in Nairobi, playing 90s music with listeners commenting that they have been loving the playlist. 28

Sources further indicate that another radio station dubbed Vybz FM will be launched soon. The radio targets the youth and will be a 24/7 reggae playing station.

Media experts say the new developments at Standard Media Group are aimed at attracting a large market share.

However, a section of experts are worried that the media group, which has been recording falling revenues in the past few years, could be stretching itself too thin considering KTN News is yet to attract convincing numbers to attract major advertisers.
