A five-year-old girl died after a fire razed a house in Konyango Village, Nyatike, Migori County.
- The incident was reported to Karungu Police Station on Saturday, October 3, 2026, police said.
Police officers from Karungu Police Station, accompanied by DCI Nyatike detectives, visited the scene and found the body of the child, lying on a mat.
According to her parents, she was a PP1 pupil at Kabutu Comprehensive School and had been sleeping alone in the kitchen, where she normally spent the night.
The fire broke out during the night at an undetermined time and completely razed the structure.
A motorcycle belonging to the girl’s father, which had been parked inside the kitchen, was also destroyed in the fire.
The scene was processed by police officers before the child’s body was moved to Sori Lakeside Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
Police have commenced investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the fire.
Meanwhile, police in Homa Bay County have launched investigations into the suspected murder of an unidentified man whose body was found by the roadside in Rangwe Sub-County.
The man was discovered on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at about 11am in Kadhiambo Village, Kokoko Sub-location, Central Kagan Location.
Preliminary examination established that the deceased had sustained several injuries to the head, which police said appeared to have been inflicted using a blunt object.
The scene was processed and documented by investigators before the unidentified body was moved to the Homa Bay Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
The body is being preserved pending identification and a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause and circumstances of death.
And police in Mombasa are investigating the death of a man who was allegedly assaulted by his brother following an accusation of theft.
The incident was reported at Kongowea Police Station in Nyali Sub-County on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at about 7.30am.
Police visited the scene and found the deceased lying on his back, with dried blood around his nose and mouth and visible bruises on his head and legs.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the man had allegedly been assaulted by his brother.
Police said the suspect allegedly accused his brother of stealing from his shop before the assault.
He reportedly fled the scene and was still at large as of the time of the report. Police have launched efforts to trace and arrest him.
