With less than two weeks to the 2018-19 Caf Champions League kick-off, Gor Mahia players underwent mandatory pre competition medical assessment Wednesday.
This is contrary to rumors that the players were on strike and failed to train, demanding their October salary.
“We underwent medicals today (Wednesday), tomorrow (Thursday) we will resume training, there’s nothing like a strike.
“We are very much focused on doing well in the Champions League and I believe we have what it takes to impress,” defender Philemon Otieno told Kahawa Tungu.
Club’s treasurer Sally Bolo laughed off the rumors, saying nothing could be further from the truth.
“It’s laughable, we are firmly focused on the new season and we will not be distracted politics,” she said.
Gor Mahia are scheduled to play Malawian side Nyasa Big Bullets in the preliminary round of the Champions League with the first leg slated for 27/28 November in Nairobi.
They will then travel to Blantyre for the reverse leg on 4/5 December with the aggregate winner facing either Lobi Stars of Nigeria or UMS de Loum of Cameroon for a spot in the group stage.
The team which returned to the country from the UK over the weekend after playing Everton in a historic friendly at Goodison Park is expected to resume training this morning.
K’Ogalo became the first African team to play an English team in the UK.
In the meantime Nyasa Big Bullets are in Tanzania for preseason tour and will play JKU of Zanzibar and Simba SC in friendlies Thursday and Friday respectively.
According Kahawa Tungu sources, K’Ogalo on the other hand are racing against time to secure a friendly against a team from the Southern African region before the game against Nyasa.
Some of the clubs being floated for the proposed friendly includes Zesco United of Zambia and FC Platinum of Zimbabwe.
Meanwhile, Ugandan new acquisition Erissa Ssekisambu is expected in the country today (Thursday).

Coach Dylan Kerr’s future at the club still remains uncertain and it is increasingly becoming clear that the Malta-born Englishman is not returning to the club.
It has since emerged that the coach only had a gentleman’s agreement with Gor Mahia and never signed a paper contract and hence there is nothing binding between the two.
Kerr was in charge as Gor fell 4-0 to Everton in the friendly played on 6 November 2018 at Goodison Park.
Among coaches who are believed to be angling to replace him if he quits includes the current Rayon Sports coach Roberto Oliveira Goncalves do Carmo.
“Robertinho”, Brazilian, masterminded Rayon’s 2-1 win over Gor Mahia this year hence denying them a chance to qualify for the Caf Confederation Cup quarterfinals.
