Police launched investigations following a robbery with violence incident at a coffee factory in Githunguri Sub-county, Kiambu County, that left one security guard dead and another tied up by the attackers.

The incident was reported at about 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday after a security guard alerted authorities that his colleague had been killed and coffee parchment stolen from the factory.

Police officers visited the scene and established that at around midnight, about 15 men armed with crude weapons stormed the factory.

The gang reportedly tied the hands of one watchman using his socks before fatally attacking his colleague, Shadrach Ngetich, a 36-year-old man. The deceased sustained a deep cut to the head and another cut to the left leg.

The suspects then stole coffee parchment from seven drying beds. The value of the stolen produce had not been established by the time of the report.

The restrained guard was later rescued and untied by members of the public. Crime scene investigators processed and photographed the scene before the body of the deceased was moved to Kigumo Level 4 Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest those behind the attack and recover the stolen coffee.

Elsewhere, police in Msambweni Sub-county, Kwale County, are investigating the death of an unidentified man whose body was discovered in a bush near Diani.

The incident was reported on Wednesday by a village elder who alerted authorities after finding a body lying in bushes within Mvindeni Location.

Police found the body of an unidentified African male adult lying inside the bush with no visible external injuries. Investigators also noted the presence of a makeshift shelter constructed from polythene sheets near where the body was found.

The scene was processed and documented by CSI officers before the body was moved to the Coast Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for preservation.

Police are working to establish the man’s identity and the cause of death, with a post-mortem examination expected to aid the investigations.
