Harambee Starlets will play neighbors Uganda in a friendly as part of their preparations for the forthcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) in Ghana.

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa confirmed the same Tuesday while adding that they are still planning for a second friendly.

The team which is yet to be named will report for a two-week camp at the Kasarani Stadium starting Monday next week to begin the preparations.

To fully get ready for the championship which starts on 17 November to 1 December in Ghana, the team will require Ksh43 million according to the federation’s estimates.

The money will cover allowances, travel logistics and accommodation.

“Yesterday I was able to present the budget to the ministry (sports) for consideration,” Mwendwa said.

He revealed that FKF spent Ksh39 million to prepare the team during the Cameroon edition of the competition which Kenya graced for the first time in 2016.

Starlets qualified for the biennial tournament last week after Caf disqualified Equatorial Guinea for fielding an ineligible player in the qualifiers against Kenya.

Equatorial Guinea were found guilty of using a Cameroonian, Jacky Massemo, in the final round of the qualifiers which they narrowly won 3-2 on aggregate against Kenya.

On Sunday, Kenya was pooled in Group B of the tournament alongside record eight-time champions Nigeria, two-time finalists South Africa and Zambia.

Starlets will open their campaign on 18 November 2018 against Zambia in Cape Coast.
