Instagram can show when you were recently active through its Activity Status feature. If you prefer more privacy, learning how to hide last seen on Instagram allows you to prevent other people from seeing when you were last active or whether you are currently active. The setting can be changed directly through Instagram’s privacy options.

Open Your Instagram Profile
Start by opening the Instagram app on your Android phone or iPhone.
Tap your profile picture in the bottom-right corner to open your profile.

Open Settings and Privacy
From your profile, tap the menu icon in the top-right corner.
This opens the menu where you can access Instagram’s settings and privacy controls.

Find Activity Status
In Settings and privacy, search for “Activity status” or locate the option under the messaging or interactions section.
Activity Status controls whether other people can see when you are active or were recently active.

Turn Off Activity Status
Turn off the option that allows Instagram to show your activity status.
Once disabled, other people will generally no longer be able to see your last active time or current active status.

- Confirm the setting if prompted
- Return to Instagram

Understand What Happens After Turning It Off
When you hide your activity status, there is an important trade-off. You may also lose the ability to see other people’s activity status.
This means the privacy setting generally works both ways.
- Others cannot see your activity status
- You may not see theirs
- Your messages and other Instagram features continue working normally

Check Your Message Settings
Instagram’s messaging features may display activity information in conversations depending on your settings and the current version of the app.
If you still notice activity information, review your Activity Status settings again and make sure the feature is disabled.

- Check whether activity information is displayed
- Return to Activity Status settings if necessary

Update Instagram if the Option Is Missing
Instagram’s settings can change as the app is updated. If you cannot find Activity Status, make sure you are using the latest version of Instagram.
You can also use the Settings and privacy search function to look for “Activity Status.”

Remember That Hiding Last Seen Does Not Hide Everything
Turning off Activity Status only controls activity information. It does not automatically make your entire Instagram account private or prevent people from seeing your posts, profile information, or other content they are allowed to access.
If you want greater overall privacy, review your account privacy settings separately.

If you want more control over who can access your Instagram content, you can also consider making your account private.
A private account gives you more control over who can follow you and access your posts and other profile content.
- Open Settings and privacy
- Find Account privacy
- Turn on Private account if appropriate
- Review your followers regularly

Turn Activity Status Back On When Needed
You can reverse the setting whenever you want. Simply return to Activity Status and enable the feature again.
This will allow eligible Instagram users to see your activity status according to Instagram’s current privacy rules.
