Huawei and Mobicom Kenya Ltd., Kenya’s largest and most seasoned telecommunications distributor, have today announced a partnership deal for the distribution of Huawei devices. Through the partnership, Huawei will leverage on Mobicom’s enhanced distribution network to spread its tentacles in the Kenyan market.

Huawei CEO in Kenya, Wind Li, said:

“We’re excited with this partnership with Mobicom which is the first in a series of strategic efforts to create additional touch points for our consumers to engage and interact with our emerging brands all over Kenya. The Huawei G3512 demonstrates our ongoing commitment to innovating high quality devices that utilize the latest hardware and software technologies.”

Huawei has also announced that it has sold more than 170,000 units of its IDEOS smartphone giving it a 45% smartphone marketshare in Kenya. The 45% figure does not make sense since even when it had sold only 60,000 smartphones, the figure was at 45%.

At the same time, HUAWEI has unveiled its G3512 feature phone in the Kenyan market.  The G3512 is an entry-level multimedia phone comes in an optional dual-SIM, and a 650mAh capacity battery promising 180 minutes talk time. The phone has an expandable memory which supports up to 8GB.

The phone will be retailing at Sh 2,999 at all Mobicom and Orange Kenya outlets.
