Naftali Njami Kinuthia, the man who attacked medical student Ivy Wangechi, has been discharged from Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.

Kinuthia, an employee of betting firm Sport Pesa, was admitted at MTRH on Tuesday after he was attacked by local boda boda riders following the murder of the sixth-year Moi University School of Medicine student.

Reports indicate Kinuthia, 28, killed Ms Wangechi using an axe.

Moi hospital Chief Executive Officer Wilson Aruasa confirmed that Kinuthia was discharged on Friday evening.

Following his discharge, police have revealed that the man will be held at undisclosed location before he’s arraigned on Monday.

On Wednesday, Kinuthia, described as a calm person by parents and colleagues, told authorities that he committed the crime after continuous frustrations from the woman he loved.

The body of Ms Wangechi was on Thursday moved to Kenyatta University Hospital mortuary as funeral arrangements continue.

Colleagues and family members couldn’t hold back their tears as the hearse carrying the remains of Ms Wangechi made its way out of the hospital, where the deceased was taking her final practicals.

She will be buried at her parent’s home in Thika.

Both Wangechi and Kinuthia’s families have acknowledged that the two were childhood friends, however, what pushed Kinuthia to commit the heinous act remains a mystery to them.
