Joshua has one brother named Shane Turner.

However, despite his prominence as a musician and online personality, he maintains a private personal life, and details about his family are not widely documented.

    Career

Turner’s musical journey began at a young age when he started singing at nine and picked up the guitar at 14 in January 2006.

Within a year of learning the guitar, he launched his YouTube channel, Josh Turner Guitar, where he began posting covers of popular songs.

His cover of Dire Straits’ “Sultans of Swing” became his first viral video, garnering over 13 million views by January 2025.

His 2014 cover of Paul Simon’s “Graceland” led to an appearance on Good Morning America, further boosting his profile.

Turner studied music at Butler University, where he was involved in the Butler Chorale and served as music director for the a cappella group Out of the Dawg House.

After moving to New York City in 2016 to pursue music full-time, he began touring internationally, both as a solo artist and with collaborators.

Turner’s discography includes two solo albums: As Good a Place as Any (2019) and Public Life (2020), the latter of which was released as a song-by-song video series before its vinyl release.

He is also a key member of the folk duo The Other Favorites, alongside Carson McKee, with whom he has released the EP Fools (2017), the studio album Naysayer (2018), the live album Live in London (2019), and the album Unamericana (2021).

In 2017, Turner formed another duo, The Bygones, with Allison Young, though the duo announced they would not continue the project in February 2025.

His live performances include starring as Paul Simon in Graceland Live in 2019 and touring with The Simon & Garfunkel Story in 2018 and 2019.

Turner also works as a recording engineer and producer, often collaborating with his wife, Kelly, on creative projects.
