Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua has asked the county finance ministers not to pay the Members of the county assembly their salaries until they pass the county  integrated development plan which was the condition set by the controller of budget before releasing funds to ward representatives.

The governor said that the Machakos MCAs approved their salaries and failed to approve funds for development and therefore did not deserve their salaries.

The governor accused the MCAs of being selfish and not caring for the people that voted for them. He said that bursaries were yet to be disbursed as a result of the tussle between him and the MCAs

“The members of the county assembly who are fighting me approved their own salaries but failed to approve money for development. I have said they should also not get their salaries if they will not approve money for development,” said Mutua.

An MCA from the area confirmed that they were yet to receive their October salary as a result.

The MCAs have in the past said that the governor was using their opponents who lost in the 2017 election to frustrate them.  They said that the county executives disregarded the plan that they had presented.

The governor said that residents are the ones who choose their links who are the leaders who lost.

“Whenever I plan to visit their wards I call and send them official letters but they decline… I am left with no alternative but to request Machakos residents to choose leaders who will act as a link between for better service delivery to wananchi,” he said.
