Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) have arrested a suspected drug trafficker in Nakuru, recovering heroin valued at Sh1.19 million in a swift intelligence-led operation.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspect, 42-year-old Ephantus Kariuki Mwangi, was apprehended while riding a motorcycle, carrying luggage that raised suspicions among detectives.

A search of the luggage revealed 397 grams of heroin, carefully concealed for transport. Investigators also seized two syringes and needles, ten rolls of bhang, and three packets of Supermatch cigarettes.

Authorities said the arrest effectively disrupted what they believe was an active drug supply run. Kariuki is currently in police custody as investigations continue ahead of his arraignment.

“The DCI remains committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks through relentless operations and multi-agency collaboration. We have zero tolerance for traffickers, regardless of status, and will continue to work to ensure a safer, drug-free Kenya for all,” the DCI said.
