The Selection Panel for the Appointment of the Chairperson and Members of the Board of Trustees of the National Research Fund has shortlisted nine candidates for the position of Chairperson.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the panel said it received a total of 36 applications by the closing date. However, eight applications were found to be misaligned or unsolicited and were therefore not considered for long-listing. These included applicants who applied for unadvertised positions, those who did not specify the positions they were applying for, and others who did not apply for any advertised vacancy.

This left 28 valid applications for consideration for the Chairperson position. The post was advertised on February 10, 2026, and closed on March 10, 2026 at 5.00 p.m. (EAT).

The shortlisted candidates include Vassey N. Mwaja, Ezekiel Kibet Tanui, Fatuma Hirsi Mohamed, Justus Inonda Mwanje, Evans Kituzi Avedi, Wafula Okumu and Mary Goretti Wosyanju, who will be interviewed on May 13, 2026. Vincent Agala Chokaa and Thomas Kiprono Serrem will be interviewed on May 14, 2026.

The panel has directed all shortlisted candidates to arrive at the interview venue at least 30 minutes before their scheduled time.

Candidates are required to present original copies of their National Identity Card or passport, academic and professional certificates and transcripts, and any other supporting documents and testimonials. They must also provide a letter of recognition of qualifications from the Commission for University Education (CUE) for degrees obtained from foreign universities, as well as an affidavit verifying any discrepancies in names appearing in their documents, where applicable.
