oj simpsonFollowing a nine year spell in prison, former NFL star OJ Simpson was released from a Nevada prison on Sunday.

As Simpson begins his new life on parole he will attempt to pick up the pieces in what has been a very controversial career.

According to Brooke Keast , a spokeswoman for the Nevada Department of Corrections he was picked up in the middle of the night by one of his friends.

“I told him, ‘Don’t come back,’ and he responded, ‘I don’t intend to,’ ” she said. “He was upbeat, personable and seemed happy to get on with his life.”

“Our biggest concern was our safety and the public’s safety and not wanting anybody, paparazzi, to follow him,” Keast said. “He left through a big blue door through the front gatehouse and exited quietly. He looked down because he didn’t want to be photographed.”

Following his release Simpson is expected to move to Florida where he will stay in a gated residence with a selection of friends.

He has also been given several conditions by the Nevada parole board.

Simpson will not be allowed to consume alcohol excessively nor hang out with ex-convicts.

“You are permitted to consume alcoholic beverages but not in excess,” the conditions of parole supervision read. “You shall submit to a medically recognized test for blood/breath content. Test results of .08 alcohol or higher shall be sufficient proof of excess.”

Back in 2007, the former Buffalo Bills player was part of a group that raided a hotel and casino to steal sports memorabilia at gunpoint.
