Motorists will starting midnight dig deeper into their pockets as petrol prices go up in latest fuel prices review.

Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) on Tuesday announced that petrol prices will rise by Sh1.53 to go for Sh113.73 in Nairobi.

Diesel Prices will reduce by Sh0.51 to sell at Sh102.74 while that of kerosene will go down by Sh0.78 to go for Sh84.95 in the capital.

According to the ERC the aforementioned changes are as a result of the average landed cost of Super petrol increasing by 3.08 percent per ton.

Until September 14, the three products will sell at Sh114.39, Sh103.63 and Sh85.76 respectively in Nakuru.

In Kisumu, petrol will go for Sh115.64, diesel at Sh104.88 and kerosene at Sh86.83 per litre.

Treasury principal secretary Kamau Thugge on Monday warned that fuel prices will starting September 1 attract a 6 per cent value added tax (VAT).

Petrol is expected to sell at Sh130.15, diesel at Sh119.77 and kerosene at Sh99.44 after adding the tax.

The rise in fuel prices will also attract a hike in matatu fares, Matatu Owners Association chairman Simon Kimutai warned.

“Common sense in any business [means] that costs that come in are passed on to consumers,” he said.
