A suspect sought refuge at a police station after he had been chased by a mob who wanted to lynch him in connection with the murder of his girlfriend in a village in Kabiyet, Nandi County.

Police said the suspect came to the Kabiyet police station running with a mob in his pursuit. He immediately ran to the report office as the police on duty rushed out with guns cocked and stopped the raging mob on March 3 afternoon.

It was later established the suspect was linked to the murder of his girlfriend identified as Magdalene Barno, 41 in Kaiboi area. Police rushed to the scene and found the body lying in a pool of blood with visible injuries.

Neighbours said the man and the deceased woman had quarreled overnight leading to the fatal attack on her.

The man was detained for grilling as the body was moved to the mortuary for autopsy.

Locals warned against the release of the suspect lest they kill him.

Police vowed justice in the murder of the woman.

Murder incidents have been on the rise in homes and are connected to domestic quarrels, land or money disputes.

Meanwhile, two people were separately electrocuted in incidents in Nairobi and Tharaka Nithi Counties, police said.

In the first incident, a volunteer with the Kenya Red Cross was electrocuted while on a search and rescue mission in Mukuru slums, Nairobi.

Police and witnesses said Samuel Wangila, 35 had on Tuesday gone to Mukuru Kwa Reuben area for a search and rescue mission of a drowning case at the Nairobi River which snakes through the area when he was electrocuted.

This was after he touched a live naked wire in the water. He sustained burns in the hands and throat and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In Ntumu, Tharaka Nithi County, one Morris Mutembei was electrocuted as he trimmed trees at a homestead.

Witnesses said a branch which he had cut landed on live Kenya Power cables causing the electrocution.

He died on the tree before the body was moved to the mortuary.

Such incidents where people are electrocuted while trimming trees have been on the rise amid calls on the masses to seek help from the power supplier before embarking on such missions.

And a man drowned in a dam in Machakos’ Tala area. Philip Mutisya had gone to the dam to swim when he drowned.

Efforts to trace and retrieve his body continued on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, 11 people who included five pedestrians, three riders, a passenger, a driver and a pillion passenger died in separate road accidents on Tuesday night.

Police said at least 17 other people were left with serious injuries and they included seven passengers, six pillion passengers, three riders and a driver.
