Former National Land Commission (NLC) Chairman Muhammad Swazuri will remain in police custody until May 2.

This is after his application for a reduction of his Ksh12 cash bail was set to be ruled on that day by Justice Mumbi Ngugi.

Swazuri, alongside 10 others spent the Easter weekend in custody pending their bond hearing on Tuesday.

During the bond hearing, the former chair was released on a cash bail of Ksh12 million with a bond option of Ksh30 million.

However, for his co-accused persons, their bail varied on the number of counts that each had.

Swazuri was arrested last Wednesday by EACC detectives over the irregular compensation for a parcel of land in Mombasa to construct the Southern Bypass and the Kipevu Terminal link road.

NLC paid a sum of Sh109 million to Tornado Carriers Limited and C.W Chege and Co. Advocates.

In a statement, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji ordered their arrest and charges against them including conspiracy to commit and economic crime, abuse of office and financial misconduct.
