Chaos was witnessed on Sunday in Nyeri town constituency after a section of the youth in the region set ablaze T-shirts branded “Uhuru’s bedroom”.

Reports indicate that the residents were protesting a move by the area MP Ngunjiri Wambugu of “fighting” Deputy President William Ruto while promoting President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga’s interests.

The DP was expected to lead a fundraising ceremony at the AIPCA Mukaro Church in the region on Sunday afternoon.

Wambugu, a vocal lawmaker, said to be the leader of the anti-Ruto team in the Mount Kenya region popularly known as Kieleweke, is accused of sponsoring the printing of the T-shirts.

Following the incident, several people have reportedly been arrested for causing disturbance.

The incident happened moments after Gatundu South lawmaker Moses Kuria claimed that Ngunjiri was organising goons to disrupt the DP’s event at AIPCA Mukaro Church.

He called on the interior ministry to dispatch a team to the area.

“Dear PS Kibicho and CS Matiangi. There are rumours that Nyeri Town MP is organising goons to disrupt the event at the AIPCA Mukaro Church that will be graced by the Deputy President this afternoon.

“Kindly ask the police to maintain law and order. I really fear for the lives of those goons given that the AIPCA faithful are the real freedom fighters who liberated this country. The body count might be shocking. I am sure you are up to the task. Uphold the rule of law, ” Moses Kuria wrote on Facebook.

On his part, Ngunjiri cried foul pointing finger at the DP for the chaos witnessed.

“So Ruto’s people have paid goons to burn Uhuru’s T-shirt’s in Nyeri? And to do it shouting ‘Ruto! Ruto!’ #Isorait, ” he captioned a video of the youth burning the T-shirts.
Ngunjiri’s sentiments didn’t, however, augur well with a section of netizens who accused him of divisive politics.

“Did Uhuru buy for them the T-shirts and for what purpose if I may ask? You are being desperate trying to prove nothing, ” said Lemiso Sato Emmanuel.

Matthew Bett wrote, “mheshimiwa promote peace and cohesion.stop manufacturing lies.he is the dp and he is not competing with anyone. You came the other day from ODM and you’ve brought disharmony in the hse and you’re barely 2yrs in Jubilee. This shows where your heart is and it seems ulitumwa and you’re about to achieve your aim-to split jubilee.”

“Moses Kuria had issued a statement which has now come to pass!!! This is your signature buana!!
The blood of ODM still flows in your vain..we know the extent you can go to please those who are against William Ruto and his trending within the region of Mt Kenya. You cannot blindfold us, ” said Sam Sam.
