Police in Kigumo Sub-County, Murang’a County, are investigating an incident in which a 40-year-old farmhand died after reportedly suffocating inside a silage pit.

The incident occurred on May 6, 2026, at around 8:45 a.m. in Kangari area.

According to police, the deceased, identified as Josphat Murunga Musaki, employed as a farmhand, had gone to feed cattle after milking.

He is said to have entered an anaerobic silage pit approximately 10 feet deep in an attempt to remove feed, instead of using the usual method of scooping from outside with an improvised tool.

Police say the victim is believed to have run out of oxygen while inside the pit and was unable to exit.

With assistance from members of the public, the man was retrieved from the pit, but he was already dead.

The scene was visited by the police who confirmed that the body had no visible external injuries.

The scene was processed, and the body was moved to AIC Githumu Funeral Home, where it awaits a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Elsewhere, police in Nyamira South Sub-county are investigating the death of a 30-year-old man who was found dead in his home at Mabundu Village, Bogichora Location.

The incident was reported on May 6, 2026, at around 9:45 a.m. at Nyamira Police Station.

The deceased, identified as Boniface Bundi, a Kisii male adult, was discovered lying on his bed inside his semi-permanent house wearing blood-stained clothes. He also had a bandage on his left hand.

According to his mother, Margarene Kwamboka Bundi, the deceased returned home the previous evening at around 6:00 p.m. with a bleeding right hand. He reportedly stated that he had been involved in a fight with an unidentified man who injured him with a machete (panga).

He was taken to a nearby private facility, Lanex Clinic, where he was treated and discharged. He later went to bed at around 8:00 p.m., but was found dead the following morning.

Police officers visited the scene and confirmed the body was lying in bed in a pool of blood-stained clothing.

The scene was processed and documented by Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers. The body was moved to Nyamira County Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.

Police said no arrests have been made so far, and the case is under investigation.
