Ethiopia took gold and silver in the 10000m in the 2018 Asaba African Senior Athletics Championship with Kenya’s best performer coming a distant fourth on Wednesday.
Jemal Mekonnen grabbed gold in 29:08.01 with his country mate Andamlak Berta taking silver in 29:11.09.
Uganda’s Tomothy Toroitich won bronze medal by finishing third in 29:11.87.
Vincent Kipsang was Kenya’s best finisher at number four in 29:14.52. Kipsang Temoi and Josphat Bet finished 5th and 7th respectively.
Following delays at Lagos International Airport, which saw the Kenyan team spend two nights away from the venue of the competition, the 10000m team arrived hours to the start of the race.

However, instead of a no show they chose to compete.
Team Kenya had threatened to head back home following the embarrassing situation which saw over 200 athletes from 12 countries get stranded at the airport for lack for lack of connecting flights to Asaba.
