A serving General Service Unit (GSU) corporal was hacked to death by masked attackers who raided his home in Bondo, Siaya County, in the early hours of Monday. At the same time, a 64-year-old man was separately killed in an attack in Mbeere South, Embu County.

Cpl Henry Okello Omondi Ojudi, 44, was attacked at his home in Got Nyapong Village at about 2:30 am.

Ojudi was attached to the GSU headquarters in Nairobi.

Police were alerted at about 4:30 am, prompting officers from Bondo and Lwala Kotieno to visit the scene.

Preliminary investigations established that two masked men armed with a panga and a sword broke into the house and accessed the bedroom where Ojudi was sleeping with his wife.

The attackers allegedly stabbed him twice in the chest before dragging him outside, where they further cut him on the head and shoulders.

    His wife escaped unharmed.

The assailants fled into the darkness immediately after the attack, with police saying nothing was stolen from the house.

The motive for the killing remained unknown.

The scene was processed and documented before Ojudi’s body was moved to Bondo Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

Detectives have launched investigations to identify the attackers and establish the motive behind the killing.

In a separate incident, a 64-year-old man was hacked to death by two men after leaving Kiritiri Market with his second wife in Mbeere South, Embu County.

The deceased, Joseph Njeru Ngari, a resident of Gichiche Sub-location, was found lying in a thicket at Kamutuanjiru Village in the early hours of Monday.

Police were alerted at about 2:30am and officers from Kiritiri Police Station proceeded to the scene.

Investigations established that Njeru had left Kiritiri Market at about 8pm on Sunday with his second wife on his motorcycle.

The couple reportedly stopped at the scene after Njeru said he wanted to meet a person known to him before proceeding to their home in Kerwa Village, Gichiche.

According to his wife, one man emerged from a thicket and Njeru walked about 10 metres away from her to speak to him.

A second man later joined them, and the woman reportedly heard the men exchanging words in low tones.

She moved closer to establish what was happening but, before she could reach them, one of the men disappeared into the darkness.

The second man allegedly took Njeru’s motorcycle and fled, leaving him lying on the ground with deep cut wounds.

Police established that Njeru had suffered two visible deep cuts across the face, around the left eye and nose.

Crime Scene Investigation officers processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Embu Level 5 Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

Police are investigating the motive of the killing, seeking to identify the suspects and trace the stolen motorcycle.
