The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has announced a vacancy for the position of chairperson.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, the Selection Panel invited applications from suitably qualified candidates to serve as Chairperson of the Authority’s Board.

According to the notice, applicants must be Kenyan citizens and hold a degree from a university recognized in Kenya. Candidates must also meet the qualifications for appointment as a judge of the High Court of Kenya under Article 166(5) of the Constitution. This includes at least 10 years’ experience as a superior court judge, professionally qualified magistrate, distinguished academic, legal practitioner, or in another relevant legal field.

Applicants are further required to meet the integrity standards outlined in Chapter Six of the Constitution.

The successful candidate will serve a single, non-renewable term of six years.

“The remuneration for this position shall be as determined by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission,” the notice reads.

Interested applicants must submit a detailed curriculum vitae, copies of identification documents, academic and professional certificates, transcripts, testimonials, and other relevant supporting documents. Applications should be clearly marked “Application for the position of Chairperson, Independent Policing Oversight Authority.”

Submissions can be hand-delivered to the Public Service Commission offices in Nairobi or sent via registered mail to the Selection Panel.

All applications must be received on or before Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. East African Time.

The position fell vacant following the appointment of Issack Hassan to the Court of Appeal.
