KeNHA Warns Motorists as Heavy Rains Hit the Country

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has urged motorists to exercise caution following forecasts of persistent heavy rains across the country.

The Kenya Meteorological Department (MET) has warned that both urban and rural areas are likely to experience moderate to heavy downpours this season, raising the risk of flooding and reduced visibility on the roads.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has also issued a road safety alert, highlighting slippery road conditions, fog, and the potential for accidents.

KeNHA Director General Luka Kimeli said in a statement on March 4, 2026, that drivers should slow down, maintain safe following distances, avoid overtaking in heavy rain or fog, and refrain from driving through flooded sections. Motorists and cyclists are advised to wear reflective gear, while pedestrians should avoid walking close to fast-moving traffic during downpours.

Kimeli warned that heavy rains could lead to traffic delays, temporary road closures, and an increased risk of accidents, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

“The authority will continue to monitor the situation and respond promptly to affected road sections,” he said.
