    Melahat Özgü Namal, known professionally as Özgü Namal, is a prominent Turkish actress born on December 28, 1978, in Üsküdar, Istanbul, Turkey.

    She comes from a family with immigrant roots: her paternal side traces back to North Macedonia (Skopje), and her maternal side to Thessaloniki in Greece.

    Her father, Kubilay Namal, was a retired merchant, and her mother, Akile Namal, is a retired civil servant.

    Namal grew up in various Istanbul neighborhoods including Bağlarbaşı, Kuzguncuk, and Nakkaştepe.

    She developed an early passion for performing arts, beginning her acting journey as a child at Masal Gerçek Theatre.

    Namal graduated from Üsküdar Cumhuriyet High School and later from the Theatre Department of Istanbul University State Conservatory in 2002.

    Özgü has one sibling, a younger brother named Duygu Namal.

    However, details about her brother remain largely private, as Namal tends to keep her family life away from the spotlight.

    Career

    Namal started acting professionally at age 14 in Enis Fosforoğlu Theatre and appeared in children’s plays at Masal Gerçek Theatre.

    Her television debut came in 1998 with Affet Bizi Hocam, followed by roles in series like Karate Can and Yeditepe İstanbul.

    She gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Elif Eylül in the iconic Turkish series Kurtlar Vadisi (Valley of the Wolves) from 2003 to 2005.

    Her film career began with Sır Çocukları in 2002, earning her early promising actress awards.

    Notable film roles include Beynelmilel (The International), Polis, Organize İşler, and especially Mutluluk (Bliss) in 2007, which showcased her dramatic capabilities.

    She delivered strong performances in Hanımın Çiftliği (2009–2012) as Güllü/Serap and in Merhamet (Compassion).

    After a hiatus from 2015 to 2023, she returned successfully with leading roles in Kızıl Goncalar as Meryem Tezel and the 2025 series Kıskanmak as Seniha Paşazade.

    She has also worked as a presenter and jury member on shows like Yetenek Sizsiniz Türkiye.

    Accolades

    For her early work in Sır Çocukları, Namal won the Promising New Actress Award at the Ankara International Film Festival and Sadri Alışık Awards.

    Her performance in Beynelmilel earned her Best Actress at the Istanbul International Film Festival.

    In 2007, she won the prestigious Best Actress award at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival for Mutluluk, along with the Yeşilçam Award for Best Actress and recognition at the Pune International Film Festival.

    She has also been honored with Sadri Alışık and Afife Theatre Awards for her stage work, including Best Supporting Actress in a Musical/Comedy.

    Additional accolades include Best Actress honors for her television roles in Hanımın Çiftliği and Merhamet, as well as recent recognitions like the Mimar Sinan of the Year award for Kızıl Goncalar.
