Police in Rangwe Sub-County, Homa Bay County, arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the murder of an eight-year-old boy.

A team of officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Rangwe launched investigations into what had initially been reported as a sudden death on April 26.

Following extensive investigations, including the interrogation of suspects and statements from key witnesses, police arrested the suspect identified as Blevince Odhiambo Owino.

According to investigators, the suspect confessed to killing the minor, by strangulation.

He further admitted to disposing of the body by the roadside at midnight.

Preliminary findings indicate the incident may have been triggered after the child allegedly refused to eat food that had been served to him.

The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be arraigned in court as detectives seek custodial orders.

Authorities have since reclassified the case as murder.

The body of the deceased is awaiting a post-mortem examination, while investigations continue under DCI Rangwe.

Elsewhere, an attempted robbery incident in Shauri Moyo, Nairobi, on Monday night ended in the death of a suspect following mob justice, police have confirmed.

According to police, officers on routine patrol along Bondo Street at around 8:00 p.m. encountered three men on an unmarked motorcycle attempting to rob members of the public.

When challenged by the officers to surrender, one of the suspects reportedly drew a firearm and fired two shots in their direction.

His accomplices fled the scene on the motorcycle towards the sprawling Majengo slums.

The remaining suspect was cornered by members of the public and subjected to mob justice before police intervened. However, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after being rescued.

Police processed the scene and recovered a homemade firearm loaded with one live 9mm round.

The body of the deceased, described as an unidentified African male aged about 30, was moved to the Nairobi City Mortuary pending identification and postmortem examination.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with authorities pursuing the two suspects who escaped.
