Uchumi Supermarkets acting CEO Mohamed Mohamed has refuted clains that the main office was being auctioned to settle rent arrears amounting to Sh.60 million owed to Kenya National Trading Corporation (KNTC).
The CEO admitted that that indeed they owed KNTC rental arrears but did not reveal the amount of money that they owed the landlords but confirmed that they had not received any letters for auctioning.

‘Uchumi has not received any auctioning proclamation from KNTC,” he said.
Two weeks ago a supplier had threatened to attach Uchumi’s assets to an auction be to recover a debt amounting to Sh.67 million.
Euromart Limited, the supplier had secured a court order to auction the goods to recover the debt incurred five years ago. They said that they had supplied the Retailer with Electronics.
Mohamed said that they are working towards meeting all their creditors to fnd and amicable way of settling all their debts.
